Night Biodiversity Experience - Moth Watching
About this Offering
Shergaon’s biodiversity includes many small and often overlooked organisms. Moths and other nocturnal insects contribute to ecological processes, including pollination and food webs, making them valuable subjects for nature education.
The proposed experience could introduce visitors to moth identification and observation through the guidance of a naturalist. Participants could learn about insect diversity, examine visible characteristics, and understand why nocturnal insects are important to the wider ecosystem.
Moth screening was included in the 2025 Seinthuk Nature Camp organised by Garung Thuk in collaboration with the Shergaon Forest Division and WTI. The programme used hands-on activities to introduce students to local biodiversity.
Partners & Community Collaboration: Garung Thuk, Shergaon Forest Division, and WTI have documented collaboration on the nature camp. The naturalist and organisers for a future public moth-watching activity remain to be confirmed.
Visitor Guidelines: Use appropriate observation methods, avoid unnecessary handling, minimise disturbance to wildlife, and follow the guide’s instructions.
